Regenerative Hair Growth
This treatment is non-surgical, safe, and effective way to generate new hair growth.
I use several different combinations and will choose which is best suited for you. Options include: Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP), , or PRP with ACell MatriStem to encourage new hair growth.
Regenerative Hair Growth using Stem cells from your own fat cells, PRP or ACell in combination is administered by injection to help activate the hair follicle into becoming healthier and more productive. This results in new and robust hair growth. The ACell acts as progenitor stem cells, Fat Transfer contains your own progenitor stem cells and the PRP helps direct them to start growing the new hair follicles.
You can expect your treatment to take 60-90 minutes depending on the treatment. First, your blood will be drawn to make the PRP. If it is a day for fat transfer then you will have a small amount of fat taken from your belly or flank. After processing, Dr. Barr will use a local anesthetic to numb your scalp. Then the solutions will be injected in a grid like pattern over your areas of thinning hair.
The recovery from this procedure is usually uneventful, and pain is manage easily, in most cases, with non-narcotic analgesic medication such as Tylenol. Mild swelling of the forehead has been seen 1-2 days following your treatment. This is normal, and will resolve itself within that time. Avoiding vigorous activity is recommended until the swelling is gone. You can wash your hair normally the day after the injections.
Many studies support the efficacy of Fat Transfer and PRP in stimulating new hair growth. New growth can be seen as early as 2 months, but is typically normally seen between 4-8 months. This will continue to improve over the year after your treatment. Results have been maintained without additional injections for up 2 years in many patients, but no long term data is yet available to determine that PRP/ACell induced hair growth is permanent.
A series of treatments is recommended to match that of the natural hair cycle. You can expect to come in every 4-6 weeks. Schedule with the doctor to see if you are a good candidate.
